When my work gets creative, passion takes over. During NY NOW this year, I got to spend time with Adam Glassman, the Creative Director of O, The Oprah Magazine. What was supposed to a simple 15-minute interview turned into the best 1.5-hour “retaillectual” conversations I had in a while. As Adam and I walked the show floor, we talked about what made products great, how retailers and brands could create the best pricing for items they sold to their customers and of course, we talked interior design and fashion trends.

At the end of the interview, I asked Adam if I’d not asked him something he felt was important to share.

  • He said: “You didn’t ask me what everyone asks me.”
  • I asked him: “What is that?”
  • He said: “How to get on Oprah’s ‘O’ List.”
  • I said: “I didn’t want to seem as if hadn’t done my homework.”
  • He smiled and said: “I’m going to tell you anyway.”

According to Adam, every year he and his team are tasked with finding the most innovative and delightful products created in the current year and present them to Oprah (if she hadn’t found them herself) for consideration. After searching for the best of the best (a process that takes all year), Oprah makes the final selection of what will be featured in the magazine.
